Breaking Dawn Part 2

Now that I have seen the last movie in The Twilight Saga I will gladly chime in.

For starters, I am one of those moviegoers who either hates a movie so much that I feel major disappointment when I walk out... cough cough New Moon cough cough.... OR I love it so much that I immediately want to go see it again/ Google its DVD release date. 

I can proudly tell you that I loved Breaking Dawn Part 2! I'll shout it at the top of the Empire State Building and I won't care who hears me.

For those of you in the back with the grumbling under your breath comments "O my gosh, how can she like that? It was such a waste of two hours." All I have to say is haters gonna hate.

Everyone has to have a guilty pleasure. Pinterest, the Real Housewives series, brownies, and Twilight just happen to be a few of mine. 

Before I went and saw the movie, I was skeptical it could muster up the same kind of emotions that the book gave me. The sadness, the anxiety, the jump-off-a-cliff-I-can't-turn-the-next-page-in-fear of-what-happens-next feeling that only makes you want to keep reading until its over. The movie did a pretty good job of this.

I won't say it conjured up the exact same intensity of feelings because "the twist" gives you a whole new set of emotions. 

I honestly don't think they could have made the battle scene without "the twist." It blew my mind.

And for those of you wondering: Were there any shirtless Jacob shots?

 Oh yes, there was. He strips right down to his skivvies in one of the scenes. Sadly, that was the only shirtless Jacob scene in the entire movie!

There were definitely some “take it off” comments yelled throughout the theatre.

When the credits rolled, I felt a pang of sadness, but then I turned to my sister and asked “Can we go see it again tomorrow?” J

Fan Fiction- The Cullen Campaign

Fan fiction has transformed over the past couple of decades. What was once fiction based on the explicitly viewed actions of popular characters, is now more commonly just fans writing different endings, scenarios, and plots of their favorite movies, TV shows, and books.

FanFiction.net is one of the most popular and widely used fan fiction archives in the world.This past summer, it purged 62,000 stories when they changed their eighteen and over age policy to allow people under the age of eighteen to register. 

FanFiction.Net allows content with a K-M Fiction Rating. They have not allowed MA (Mature Audience) fiction since 2002.

Although some fan fictions are still of the rated “R” variety, such as E.L. James’ Fifty Shades Trilogy, others have merely created different lives for popular characters.

Some of the most popular characters that writers incorporate into fan fiction are the characters of Harry Potter, Bella and Edward, Katniss and Peeta, and the list goes on and on.

The best thing about fan fiction is that you can find some really entertaining stories and you can also read them for free!

I am currently reading a twilight fan fiction called The Cullen Campaign. It's about Bella, a right-wing republican, and Edward, a left-wing democrat who find each other fascinating and challenging.

(Besides Bella looking demonic in this picture, Edward is looking a little too Cedric Diggory for me.)

So what’s the problem? Their families have been political rivals for the past century. This is a modern day interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Will they end up together? Or will they allow their political affiliations and their political parents keep them a part?

Other characters from the Twilight Saga have been intermixed into the plot as well. For example, Jacob and Alice are married! Alice still has her psychic abilities, but Jacob isn’t a werewolf and none of the characters are vampires. I had hoped to finish this before the 2012 US election, but all that political jargon in reality and in fiction was making my head spin :) 

Hopefully, now that the election is over I can make another go at it! 

Eclispe

This post has quite a few pictures in it just to warn you! So if you haven't crossed "watch the third movie of twilight" off your list you probably live under a rock or you just don't watch a lot of tv/movies. So read with caution…

            This movie was a little better than New Moon. When I walked out of the theatre after New Moon I was totally devastated with how much I hated it. After watching Eclipse, I walked out of the theatre feeling only half disappointed. We finally get to hear about how Alice and Jasper met. I just wished there was more of a back story on their story line. I guess I'll have to blame Stephanie Meyer on that issue!

            Eclipse, the book, was longgg. I enjoyed it, but it was lonng. My favorite part was the struggle between Bella being best friends with Jacob and totally devastatingly in love with Edward. It was an easy read and entertaining in a sitting by the pool and I need a book to read sort of way.

            The movie went along with the storyline pretty well. I wasn’t a fan of how the movie started. It made me think that I walked into the wrong movie with all the quick cuts, dark shots, and screaming creating a totally different vibe than what I got from the beginning of the book. The major pain that I forgot to mention in my review on New Moon was that they changed the actress that plays Victoria from Rachelle Lefevre to Bryce Dallas Howard. Both fierce red heads, but they look nothing alike.

            I mean come on? Did they not think the audience wouldn’t notice? It’s not a film that you have to pay too close attention to in order to follow along, but give us some credit!

           

            Overall, I treat the twilight series like candy. I love to eat it up and just can’t stop! November is fast approaching and I am in eager anticipation for the final installment of the series. Stay tuned for my breakdown of it!

Top 10 Suggestions for Books Being Turned Into Movies

I love books and I love movies. I love when books that have been turned into movies are true to the book.

The following are my top ten suggestions for success when it comes to the crucial transition of a book being turned into a movie.

1) Don’t leave out any main characters. Heck, don’t even leave out a minor character if he or she has dialogue in the book.

           

            For example, in Twilight (the first book) there is another girl in the group that Bella becomes friends with. Her name is Lauren Mallory. She is the uber popular uber stuck up girl of Forks. She hates Bella because Tyler Crowley her wannabee boyfriend is obsessed with Bella just like every other teenage boy in the book.

2) Don’t cast actors that look nothing like what the character was described in the book.

3) Make sure the plot is interesting enough to be a movie.

4) Do not put $10 dollar wigs on the main characters…. Jacob I’m sorry but that long black wig wasn’t fooling anyone.

5) Don’t change the order of events… It’s just plain wrong and you know it.

6) If you are going to kill off a character, be gentle. You’re about to rock a whole lot of people into an emotional depression. Poor Fred. And I thought I was prepared because I read the book.

7) Make the movie so good that they were like wait… what? There was a book first? No. Way.

8) Make it so people who haven’t read the book know what is going on in the movie without having character’s explicitly state what is going on like they are doing commentary at a basketball game.

9) If there are characters in the first movie, then you can’t just exclude them in the second movie just because. Hello where were you Tyler Crowley in New Moon? I mean you practically almost killed Bella in the first movie, but you disappear in the second installment?

10) If there are four books in a series there better be four or more movies in the series.

Sorry this was so Twilight obsessed with a dash of Harry Potter thrown in. They are my first (books turned movies) loves.

Now don't get me wrong I love the Twilight series. I love it like I love ice cream. I could just eat one bowl, but eating four bowls would be even better. 

This book was the point in the series for me where Bella becomes the bane of my existence. I have been through break ups and make ups and distractions also known as "Jacob," but somewhere in there I lost all respect for her.

I just can't stand when a girl falls a part over some guy that is a vampire.... I mean the odds are already stacked against them.

One crazy raging blood thirsty attack from my boyfriend's brother and I would hope I would make the decision to get the heck out of there as in say buh bye to the crazies.

Now that I have vented all my frustrations, I would like to point out that I did enjoy how Stephanie Meyers wrote it from not only Bella’s point of view, but Jacob’s point of view too. I have always felt so bad for him. What’s a cute boy with abs to do?

Movie wise, New Moon was interesting because the director was different from the first Twilight movie. For example, everything isn’t blue in this movie. I appreciated that.

Also, I felt like the movie was more about book than the soundtrack. In the first movie the soundtrack was practically playing the whole entire movie.

My favorite part of this movie was obviously that Jacob was shirtless the majority of it, but also any lines that the character Jessica says cracked me up! I read in an article that she free styled her lines in the scene where she goes to the movies with Bella. Free styling and actually being funny is much appreciated in my book.

Overall, I wouldn’t say that this movie represented the book as well as the first movie did, but it was a good try! I mean I love me some Twilight, so here’s to the November release of the last installment in the Twilight series! I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see how they are going to attempt to capture Renesmee. 

Gone Girl

         Today we are going to veer a little off of the usual content and not review a movie that was initially a book. We are going to be talking about a book I recently read that is number six on the New York Times Bestsellers list. Can you guess which book I'm going to say? No. Its not one of the Fifty Shades trilogy. Get your head out of the gutter! Plus, I'm pretty sure that is like No. 1 on the NY Times Bestsellers list...

         Ok now that your head is out of the gutter, the book I read this past weekend was Gone Girl.

         This book is messed up. It is twisted in about 500 ways. Amy and Nick Dunne are a married couple with no kids in their mid-thirties. Every marriage goes through ups and downs, but never in my life would I have guessed their marriage would have ended up the way it did. On another note, I thought the style of writing was very interesting. That was my favorite part of the book. Are you curious? Good. Go read it!

         My critiques will be vague because the book is still so new. The first critique is wow a whopping 415-page book that could have easily been told in 250.

         Next up, a mini-rant! The thing that bugged me the most was that the major discoveries in this novel kind of fizzled out. There were major discoveries, but they weren't highlighted in a BAM! kind of way. The story line kind of steam rolled right over them. 

        This book is definitely not a race to the finish. It is more of a marathon that you might pass out because it feels so long winded. There were times when I wanted to scream “OK I GET IT! GET ON WITH THE STORY!” Yes, all caps were necessary because I literally almost put the book away and I never, ever, ever leave a book unfinished. 

         As a reader, I crave a good impact and when major revelations fall short it kind of makes it impossible to keep my attention after that. At the half way point in the book, I felt like I was just reading it to have the chance of being interested. 

Overall, I would recommend it, but make sure you have a long attention span… You are going to need it. 

Heres hoping that the movie will be a little more thrilling! On IMBd.com it is classified as in development. There are also rumors circulating that Reece Witherspoon and Bradley Cooper are up for the lead rolls of Amy and Nick Dunne.

P.S. I Love You

If you need a good cry, I mean a gut-wrenching sob, then this is the book for you. I have never felt more heartbroken than when I read P.S. I Love You. The first couple of chapters will devastate you. The second couple of chapters will lead you on with a dull ache inside. The third couple of chapters you’ll cry again and again sporadically. By the end of the book you don’t know where you are or how long you have been reading, but you just know that it was worth it.

Now that we have somewhat of a framework out of the way, I will tell you the book and the movie could not be more different in setting, characters, and general feeling.

The book is set in Ireland and the overall feeling of loneliness that Holly Kennedy, the main character has is more apparent and suffocating. There are moments in the book when you just have to put it down because if not you will surely die of a broken heart. I have never in all my years of reading cried, okay more like sobbed uncontrollably, than I have with P.S. I Love You.

The movie is set in New York City and Holly Kennedy doesn’t seem as lonely. She has more of a support system that checks in on her and makes her go out of her apartment. The gut wrenching despair is still there. Believe me, my mom and I were a total wreck ten minutes in to watching it. I might have let out a really embarrassing gasp for air because I was crying so hard. Everyone in the theatre really enjoyed my uncontrollable crying…. not!

The only thing I wonder is, what does an author have to go through to be able to convey such a raw emotion completely unhindered? This book will have you experiencing emotions you never thought possible. I definitely recommend both the book and the movie. Enjoy! Make sure you have a giant SAM’s club size box of tissues next to you! You are going to need it.
